It all started in the early 2000s when I (Fran Harris) like most folks in sports recognized how youth sports were deteriorating. Bad behaving kids, bad behaving parents, bad behaving coaches, it was a mess. I look at where we are today and I’m truly saddened by what youth sports have become.
Anyway, I pitched my hometown newspaper on an idea that I thought would truly give us all a reality check on how to clean up sports so that kids could have a safe and happy career as an athlete. I titled the syndicated newspaper series, RAISING GOOD SPORTS. It was published every week for a few years, and it was an instant hit.
Then I pitched the same series to a local TV station, News8 Austin, they loved it and again, it was a hit!
Then life got kinda busy and I stopped writing the column, and I stopped producing the TV series…but I NEVER forgot about Raising Good Sports. I couldn’t. It was in my soul.
Which brings us to today.
We’ve got to do better. Period. And I’m doing my part by turning Raising Good Sports into a bonafied movement. Not local, not national, not international — GLOBAL.
I want sports to be fun again. I want parents to be civil again. I want coaches to be honest again. And I want young athletes to be safe again.
So, Raising Good Sports is a 501 c-3 whose mission is to increase opportunities for kids to participate in sports, build confidence, improve their mental health and commit to a life of health, fitness and wellness. If you’d like to become a RGS partner, CLICK HERE and let’s find a way to conspire to clean up youth sports. It’s going to take more than rule changes and security cameras. It’s going to take US changing the world around us.
I know we can do this. And I know that when people who care about the right things get together FOR GOOD, great things happen.
All In,
Fran Harris
